Structure B20 Tomb

Structure B20 Tomb Banner

Caracol Structure B20, which frames the eastern side of Caana’s upper plaza, contained four tombs in its construction fills. The earliest tomb was located deep in the core of an earlier building and can be dated to A.D.537 by an associated hieroglyphic text painted in black line on a red panel on the chamber’s rear wall. Red lines were also painted at the borders of the tomb’s walls and entranceway. A single individual, possibly female based on the positioning of a stingray spine in the mouth area and spondylous shells in the pelvis area, was accompanied by a variety of offerings, including 16 vessels and 17 spindle whorls
