The 2007 field season of the Caracol Archaeological Project began at the end of January. This is our 23rd excavation season at the ancient Maya site of Caracol, the largest known Classic Maya city in the Southern Maya Lowlands. Consistent with our long-term research design, our work this year is focusing on the abandonment of Caracol and the Classic Maya Collapse. Weekly updates from the UCF team will be posted here.
Looking forward to arriving Caracol Friday 3/2 with OMA group lead by Andrea Kalis. I have been doing my “homework” on something I know little about. Have been amassing a “goody package” – anything you need?
