After 24 field seasons (and countless excavations) we uncovered the first chert eccentrics from Caracol today! There were 3 chert eccentrics (1 is clearly visible in the photo) along with 7 eccentric obsidians, spondlyus shell, and inlay fragments from a mirror. It was an elaborate cache placed directly in the fill in a residential group and dates to the Early Classic Period.
